| WHY HAVE LINEAR SHOWER AND FLOOR GRATES? |
Bathrooms are an important feature in new homes and many home renovations. A major concern with bathrooms, and all wet areas, is the efficiency of the floor drainage in the bathroom floor area generally but of more particular concern is the performance capabilities and also the appearance of the shower grate. Floor grates and shower grates are available in many shapes, sizes and designs. Linear or long shower grates have become popular as an alternative to the traditional round or square shower grates. Using traditional floor grates in tiled wet areas requires the tile substrate to be formed with valleys flowing to the waste outlet or shower grate. Cutting tiles to follow the valleys can and often does detract from the look of the floor tiles, whereas long or linear shower grate and channel systems allow for a single plane shower floor and minimal or no angle cutting of tiles. Stripgrates linear shower grate perform better than small round or square shower grates by allowing more efficient dispersion of shower run off, and a Stripgrate linear shower grate is less prone to blocking. Plumbing fixtures are required to meet appropriate authority standards. The Australian Watermark licensing system gives the public assurance that bathroom floor grates and shower grates that have Watermark approval have been tested and proven suitable and conform with the applicable Australian Standards. Custom linear shower grates are mostly fabricated with stainless steel grates and channels, and sometimes plastic channels. They are functional but expensive. Chrome plated brass is the finish of choice for most on view bathroom fittings i.e tap ware, shower heads and floor grates. Chrome plated shower grates match other chrome plated bathroom ware. Stainless steel grates have a place in external applications where chrome plating is likely to be subjected to scratching and excessive wear and tear. For most shower floor grates the most popular type are of chrome plated brass. Setting up the collection channel to accurately allow for waterproofing and tile thickness is an area of potential problems with linear grates. It is an advantage for the collection channel to have a flange of at least 20 mm to make waterproofing easier and more effective. It is also an advantage in situations where the linear grate is positioned hard against the wall if the collection channel incorporates an up stand or vertical section to enhance waterproofing. A superior linear shower grate system, such as Stripgrate, will offer the flexibility to enable the set up of the collection channel with the collection channel flange flush with the top of the tile substrate and after tiling easily adjust the height of the linear grate itself so that the top of the grate matches the top of the surrounding tiles.
